From this ridge above the Jordan Valley, Deuteronomy tells, the Lord showed Moses the land he would not enter (Deuteronomy 34:1–5). The Franciscans have cared for the summit since 1932; their Memorial of Moses, reopened in 2016, shelters some of the finest Byzantine mosaics in Jordan, and the view runs across the Jordan Valley to the Dead Sea.
